NEW YORK, NEW YORK
For a time I was designing cover art for Water Row Books as I hit NY. Getting settled, I went out to find 'lagit' work. Not easy, but I had friends willing to help. The best folks living on the lower east side, Leslie Sternbergh, and Adam Alexander were a huge help...I can't ever repay them for all the support they showed me. Leslie is a fabulous cartoonist, and brilliant mind, Adam, equally so, is the inventor of the Alexander Star, and a designer of computer programs for fractal design...They turned me onto Steve Epstein He got me into The Blue Note, a tourist trap/music hall, I answered phones and booked reservations. I got to talk with Paul Schaffer once! It didn't last long. Remember, I don't "Play" well with others.... I then got a gig at Design East A very cool screen shop in the lower east side. Jon Millstein, was a great boss, and he had a wonderful thing going. The model for Ink and Design, is somewhat based on his shop. Soon after that I went on to get a gig at the famous Psychedelic Solution Gallery, archiving 1960's posters and ephemeral. After that I landed a freelance gig designing on-line greeting cards for a Japanese company. The first time in my life I made REAL money, and at my own time and pace...I loved it. They paid so well, that they soon ran out of money and shifted the focus. I was the last to get fired. Ho'hum.
