I WAS A TEENAGED APEX NOVELTIES PUBLISHER!

Having had subscription orders for Kär-tön, (6 issue planned) which I could not fill, I apologetically sent all subscribers copies of HECK! and all were pleased! The success was quite nice. Once in a while I still get letters from fans.

A few odd jobs after all the publishing fun happened. As usual, I don't last at working for others too long. At about this time, I needed to move from the rooming house on Dwight Way, and I was offered Dori Seda's loft space in the Scooby Toy's warehouse, where Donahue lived. It was a great place! Full of great people and art and a wonderful rooftop that we all enjoyed. Talking one night, myself and Donahue started rambling on about how all the French comic artists were publishing very beautiful serigraphs. We decided to have a go at it.

We took over a space on the lower floor of the warehouse and set up a studio. I've had a go at silk-screening in the past, but not at that level. Don was very familiar with off-set, we both really had no clue, but were talented enough and had brains enough to get the job done. Don called up Crumb and passed on the idea to him. We secured the art to his latest comix HUP #3 and we both got down to work.

Man! it turned into work. If you are familiar with Hup#3, there is a blue fade in the background. It would take many pulls before we got the fade right, then hurried and ran off about 5 before we lost the fade. We had to start all over to get about 5 more! All that and 20 other colors later, we had a masterpiece! We took a drive up to Winters, where Crumb lived and hung out in his studio, while he signed the prints...I was in heaven! We continued producing a series then. All in all we produced serigraphs for R. Crumb, S. Clay Wilson, art spiegelman, Charles Burns, Mark Beyer and Kaz. Some of which are out-of-print, and others are still to be had! Right on this very site!...BUY SOME!
