On a trip to the San Diego Comic Con, to hock the serigraphs, I met and fell in love with Flower Frankenstein, she was moving from Hawaii to SF. We were together instantly from that point on. She made me a turkey on our real first date....a little unexpected at the time, because I was out with friends tripping on acid when she called to invite me over...I still went. We soon started a little company called Scairy Hairy Toy Company...a brilliant, yet exhausting venture. We developed and produced hand-made weird toys and games. We got to work with some great artists, while we had our storefront/gallery...Mats!?, a master printmaker/cartoonist, Gary Panter, a three time EMMY award winner for designing Pee Wee's Playhouse, Charles Burns, The Residents, THE Legendary music of the strange, San Francisco AIDS Foundation, Michael Roman, and a brilliant artist/ printmaker Lawrence Colacion...just to name a very few.
After 5 years, out of my frustration and sheer exhaustion of all the production. We split. So, I left San Francisco. The first time leaving the Bay area in over 15 years. I decided to spend some lost time with my daughter in Denver. Jessica, being a teenager then, and having school and a life, didn't really have too much time to spend. I didn't sit on my hands, though. while in Denver...I silk-screened and edited an anthology, Called MEANIES...a labor of love. Gary Panter, Mats!?, Krystine Kryttre, Spain, S. Clay Wilson, Kaz and myself, all hand pulled pages...over 85 colors in all! Also, during that time, I designed and edited Mark Beyer's "We're Depressed", a "little golden book, on steroids". All produced for Water Row Books. I was also asked, before I left for NY by Don Donahue to work the initial cover design for Dori Stories, which was published by Last Gasp...
Soon after I packed up a U-Haul van to the gills and went for a risky, yet exciting move to New York! I've only visited a couple times, but was excited at the possibilities ahead.
